Center Enamel Delivers Glass-Fused-to-Steel Wastewater Treatment Tank Solutions for the Peru Food Processing Wastewater Treatment Project

Modern food processing operations require reliable, safe, and environmentally advanced wastewater management. In October 2025, Center Enamel completed the Peru Food Processing Wastewater Treatment Project — a multifaceted, large-scale initiative providing comprehensive wastewater and clean water tank solutions at a food production facility in Peru. This article highlights how Center Enamel’s proven Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFS) technology offers industry-leading performance, durability, and sustainability for critical water infrastructure.
Project Scope: Engineering Excellence for Industrial Water Treatment
The project was executed in two distinct phases, reflecting the impressive scale and complexity of modern food processing wastewater management.
Phase I Project
· Wastewater tanks: 5.35 × 4.8 m, 3 sets
· Anaerobic Digesters: 5.35 × 12.0 m, 3 sets
· Wastewater tanks: 6.12 × 6.6 m, 3 sets
· Clarification tanks: 6.88 × 6.0 m, 2 sets
· Raw water tank: 6.12 × 7.2 m, 1 set
· Potable water tanks: 5.35 × 4.8 m, 1 set; 3.05 × 5.4 m, 2 sets
Phase II Project
· Wastewater tank: 5.35 × 4.8 m, 1 set
· Wastewater tanks: 6.11 × 6.6 m, 2 sets
· Anaerobic digester: 8.41 × 9.0 m, 1 set
· Clarification tank: 7.64 × 5.4 m, 1 set
Completion: October 2025, all construction complete and fully operational
The plant now enjoys a modular and fully integrated system, handling a broad spectrum of industrial, process, potable, and effluent water streams with maximum security and minimum environmental footprint.
Why Glass-Fused-to-Steel Tanks?
Center Enamel’s Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFS) tanks set a new industry standard in wastewater storage and treatment. These tanks are engineered through a high-temperature firing process (820°C-930°C), merging steel’s strength and glass’s corrosion resistance into a singular, impervious material. The enamel coating is smooth, non-porous, and highly resistant to aggressive chemicals, making it ideal for demanding wastewater environments.
Key Advantages
· Corrosion Resistance: The glass coating shields steel from acids, alkalis, organic and inorganic chemicals — providing long life even with food industry wastewaters.
· Water and Gas Tightness: Tanks are completely impermeable to liquids and gases, guaranteeing environmental safety and process reliability.
· Impact & Wear Resistance: Robust materials withstand high flows, mechanical stress, and abrasion, preserving integrity over years of continuous operation.
· Modular Design: Bolted construction allows for fast installation, easy maintenance, and seamless future expansion.
· Low Maintenance: The smooth, glossy surface resists fouling, is easy to clean, and never requires repainting or abrasive restoration.
· Certified Quality: Manufactured to meet global standards (AWWA D103-09, ISO 28765, NSF/ANSI 61), GFS tanks are proven in industrial water, municipal sewage, and bioenergy systems worldwide.
Tank Functionality: Supporting Every Stage of Food Processing Water Management
Wastewater Tanks:
Robust storage for high-strength, variable industrial effluents. GFS tanks handle organic matter, fats, and cleaning solutions with consistent performance, zero risk of corrosion, and easy interior cleaning.
Anaerobic Digesters:
Central to sustainable wastewater treatment, these large tanks foster biological breakdown of organic solids, enabling biogas generation and safe effluent discharge. GFS tanks excel in supporting critical anaerobic microbiology by maintaining optimal temperature, mixing, and chemical neutrality.
Clarification Tanks:
These provide secondary treatment by settling suspended solids. The glass-lined tanks ensure a smooth sedimentation cycle and facilitate regular sludge removal without risk of abrasion or damage.
Raw Water & Potable Water Tanks:
Center Enamel’s GFS tanks protect clean incoming water and ready-to-consume potable water. Their inert material prevents microbial growth, preserves taste, and ensures regulatory compliance.
Each tank’s dimension and configuration were customized following process requirements, ensuring engineered solutions for every water need within the facility.
Seamless Installation & Site Integration
Center Enamel’s modular bolted tank system offers significant logistical and practical benefits:
· Rapid Installation: Pre-fabricated panels shipped to Peru, assembled by skilled crews with minimal disruption to site operations.
· Quality Assurance: Each joint sealed with advanced chemical- and temperature-resistant gaskets, then tested for leaks and coating uniformity.
· Adaptability: Modular designs allow for quick capacity increases or future upgrades without major civil works or production downtime.
· Longevity: Over 30 years’ service life means minimal future capital investment for tank replacement.
The result is a resilient, scalable, and efficient water management network, supporting both current operational needs and future expansion.
Environmental Sustainability and Economic Benefits
Sustainable Impact:
GFS tanks’ extended design life reduces long-term resource consumption. Their resistance to contamination protects local soils and watercourses, supports clean water reuse, and aligns with Peru’s growing focus on sustainable industrial practice.
Operational Reliability:
Minimal maintenance, leak-proof design, and versatile accessories (such as ladders, manways, platforms) keep production running efficiently and safely.
Financial Value:
Center Enamel’s cost-effective technology cuts operating expenses through lifecycle reductions in cleaning, repairs, and replacement, freeing capital for business expansion and innovation.
Meeting International Standards and Certifications
Center Enamel’s GFS tanks are manufactured and tested to strict international standards (ISO9001, EN1090, AWWA D103-09, OSHA, NSF/ANSI 61, NFPA, ISO28765). This guarantees robust performance, worker safety, and regulatory compliance — critical in the food industry where public health and environmental responsibility are paramount.
