This could be partial handrail, 1/4 peripheral handrail, 1/2 peripheral handrail or a circumferential handrail. The main function of the handrail is to assure people's safety when he is checking the tank from the hatch or he might need to walk aside from the platform to reach the other part of the roof.

Handrails On Roof

This could be a circumferential walkway approx. 1.2 meters below the top ring - it can usually be seen on an anaerobic digester mounted with double membrane gasholder. The circumferential walkway will not only provide much more convenient access for man, but also make installation of membrane roof easier and safer.

This could be also a connection bridge among several tanks. From one of the tanks, people can reach other tanks via this connection walkway other than climbing down from one and climbing up to another
